FAQ’s

I don’t have health insurance can I still get treated?

Yes, we offer the same services to all of our patients. For those who don’t have health insurance we offer very affordable options. For more details on payment options please call 402-896-2496.

Does my insurance cover chiropractic care?

Yes, most health insurance companies in the state of Nebraska cover Chiropractic care. Performance Chiropractic is in network with almost all of the major insurance companies in the state. We have tried hard over the years to get on every insurance panel offered in Nebraska. If you find that we are not on your plan please contact our office as we will try our best to become a provider.

What should I expect on my first visit?

On your first visit you will receive a comprehensive exam that will evaluate joint motion, muscle tension and function, as well as gait analysis or other dynamic tests. X-rays are sometimes needed, if an injury is suspected or if the doctor feels something suspicious needs to be ruled out. If your doctor feels that imaging is necessary tests will be ordered and results are giving with in 24-48 hours.

What is an ART treatment like?

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

With ART, we concentrate on working within the limits of tissue and patient tolerance. There may be some discomfort during treatment and possibly a little muscle soreness afterwards. This soreness should fade within 24 to 36 hours. The only other thing patients typically experience is relief. Patients often notice a change in their pain patterns and an increased range of motion after the first two or three visits.

To help maximize therapeutic benefits, we can pair ART with appropriate stretches and strengthening exercises, devising a progressive rehab program for each patient to keep adhesions released and to promote full recovery.

How long is a typical visit for Chiropractic?

The initial visit will take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete, depending on the severity and complexity of the injury. During this visit the practitioner will perform a history, a physical exam, provide a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment, as well as perform the first treatment (provided they do not require advanced imaging before proceeding). Visits after this point are usually 15-20 minutes in length, again depending on the severity and complexity of the injury.

Why Do Chiropractors adjust joints?

Adjustments restore motion to a joint and normalize its function. In most cases, other areas of the body that depend on it functioning normally will also benefit from adjustments. Medical textbooks will tell you that decreased motion in a joint leads to poor joint health and arthritis. Restoring motion to an area serves to improve the health of the joints and inhibits pain. By keeping your joints healthy, through properly alignment and motion onset of arthritis can be reduced or even avoided even as we age.

What can I do on my own time to help speed recovery?

Where appropriate, our doctors will prescribe rehabilitative exercises specific to your injury or condition. By adhering to the exercises as well as the treatment plan, you will accelerate the healing process. Occasionally, patients will complain of tenderness in the areas that were addressed during treatment. This is a common finding because we are breaking down scar tissue and removing adhesions, which can sometimes create a slight inflammatory reaction. In order to combat this effect, ice applied regularly over the area will help to decrease the tenderness. Your doctor will provide you with information regarding the frequency of ice application as well as the specific location to apply it. Proper rest (8-10 hours uninterrupted), staying hydrated (half you body weight in ounces) and avoiding inflammatory foods (ask your doctor for a list) will help to accelerate your healing.

Is the treatment painful?

Our main goal when providing treatment is to remove the source of the pain. In order to do that, we must first locate it and then address it accordingly. Because we are directly targeting the painful tissue, pressure applied to the area can be uncomfortable, but we do everything in our power to cater to your tolerance level. A description we often hear is that “it hurts so good”, which is accurate because by targeting the area it produces some discomfort, but you can tell that it is doing your body good. Patients are so pleased with the outcome that any discomfort during the treatment is well worth it.

What is the history of Active Release Techniques?

ART has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients’ symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to consistently resolve over 90% of his patients’ problems. He now teaches and certifies health care providers all over the world to use ART.

How long will it take before I feel better?

The majority of patients report improvement after the first visit, while for others it might take 2-3 treatments before improvement is detected. The response is varied depending on several factors such as the patients overall level of health, exercise history, pain tolerance, and individual characteristics. Most patients will experience full recovery after approximately 6-9 visits, but again this depends on factors such as the severity, complexity, and chronicity of the injury, as well as the patient’s adherence to the treatment and exercise recommendations.

What is maintenance care?

Many patients find periodic follow-up visits particularly helpful so that performance chiropractic doctors may monitor their body’s performance. Just as patients visit their dentist periodically to avoid major problems, many of our patients return to ensure that small problems are corrected easily before they become more complex issues. However, you will never be required or pressured to receive maintenance care.
