Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
With ART, we concentrate on working within the limits of tissue and patient tolerance. There may be some discomfort during treatment and possibly a little muscle soreness afterwards. This soreness should fade within 24 to 36 hours. The only other thing patients typically experience is relief. Patients often notice a change in their pain patterns and an increased range of motion after the first two or three visits.
To help maximize therapeutic benefits, we can pair ART with appropriate stretches and strengthening exercises, devising a progressive rehab program for each patient to keep adhesions released and to promote full recovery.
